19 Ways to Be More Artistic!!

♥   Channel your inner child! Children are far more artistic than adults because they have not developed any inhibitions or fear of judgement and failure.  So give yourself permission to be more childlike at times. Finger paint, doodle, scribble, draw make-believe creatures, colors outside of the lines, and completely disregard conventional color schemes.

♥   Expose yourself to all types of art. Go to art galleries, see plays, go to music concerts, listen to classical music, watch films, etc. Being exposed to different types of art will inspire you in your own artistic endeavors!! Even if you see or hear something that doesn't appeal to your taste, you will be affected by that art in some small way.

♥   Never dismiss your daydreams. Dreaming while you are awake is a wonderfully creative and artistic experience, Allow your imagination to run wild with a thousand ideas!

♥   Draw more. Carry a small sketch pad in your bag and sketch when you have free time.  You don't have to be an artist or possess professional skills in order to benefit from the art of drawing.

♥   Incorporate more color into your life. Buy things in bizarre & kooky colors.  Paint your walls in vibrant shades of purple, green, or yellow. Hang up colorful & inspiring posters. Incorporate more color into your wardrobe. Figure out which colors primarily compose your closet and purchase several pieces in colors you lack. Colors are visually stimulating!

♥   Try to take more photos. It is easy to only bring out the camera when you have a social event or for fashion purposes, but most people wish they took more photos of their random day to day joys. I use Instagram for iPhone as a means to document the simple loveliness of my everyday life. I also enjoy taking photos of flowers, animals, and anything in nature.  I'll never be a professional photographer, but photography is a wonderful way to express yourself artistically.

♥    In your personal space, get rid of things that are not inspiring. We are constantly changing and evolving. Get rid of the things that you have outgrown and make room for new things!!

♥   Expose yourself to people who are artistically inspiring to you! Being around someone who is confident in their taste and abilities will influence you in your own experiences.

♥   Make aesthetics one of the priorities in your life.  Some people are not always concerned about how things look, but they don't realize that we are all very visual on first glance. Take the time to decorate your apartment or house.  Put some thought into your outfits. Try to keep your personal space clean and organized.

♥   Try new things! Have you ever tried something new and come to the realization that you have a natural talent for it? You never know what you are good at until you give it a try. Take a drawing class! Take dance lessons! Try throwing a pot! Take a cooking class! Learn how to play an instrument! Even if you aren't wonderful at it, you can always continue practicing and hone your skills later on.

♥   Never be afraid to take risks. No matter what you are doing, you cannot be afraid of failure. You must be willing to try things that might not work out.  The only way to reach your full potential is to take the risk that you might fail. Yes, this is definitely easier said than done, but it's also very true.

♥   Stop comparing your talents to others! Especially those who have more experience than you. While it is inspiring to see someone who has developed their skills, you shouldn't feel discouraged just because you have a long way to go. Everyone starts in the same place...at the beginning!!

♥   Try a change in perspective every once in a while.  Changing the way you look at something or someone can give you the inspiration you need to make a project work. Tim Gunn's immortal words "Make it Work!" seems very fitting.

♥   Be willing to push aside something that isn't working and start fresh.  Things aren't always going to match your original vision prior to beginning.  If everything is going downhill, you should be willing to start over and do your vision justice.

♥   Try to maintain a positive outlook.  Negativity will only pollute your endeavors and hold you back artistically.  People who remain positive through rough patches are usually more successful because they have faith in themselves and their abilities.

♥   Do things that are considered different or weird.  It's easy to cookie cutter someone else's ideas, but in order to be truly artistic you must find things that are not always popular and make them work for you.

♥   If you make a mistake, just shrug it off and let it go!! Don't bog down with regrets. Instead, look forward to your next success.

♥   Never let anyone tell you that your aspirations are silly or unrealistic!! How do they know what you are capable of?? Incredibly successful people only achieved their dreams because they reached out for them.

♥   Have more faith in your capacity for creativity! It is easy to doubt yourself when you are faced with pressure & criticism, but you have the ability to be wonderfully creative and artistic!

Top 5 Wishlist: What I'm Obsessing Over At The Moment!

Hello, Dear Friend! Although we have never met each other in person, I truly feel connected to you through the magical energy of the universe & the wonderful webs of the internet. I hope we can become the best of friends and have our own virtual tea parties. I'll definitely bake some lemon squares if you brew up the Scottish breakfast tea.

I'm listening to Kate Walsh's Tim's House right now as I compose this post. It's one of my favorite albums ever. I'm beginning to develop my autumn style as summer begins to wind-down. I'm still sporting my sundresses, flipflops, and oversized sunglasses. After all, it's still 106 degrees Fahrenheit outside! Despite the unrelenting heat, I'm actually quite excited for autumn. I love the season filled with fallen leaves, cinnamon sticks, and pumpkin patches.

Lately, I've been obsessed with motorcycle boots, vintage-style jewelry, and quirky accessories. I thought it would fun to compile a top-5 list of the things I'm obsessing over for the fall.

Top 5 Wishlist: What I'm Obsessing Over At the Moment

Frye Engineer Boots! These motorcycle boots are absolutely perfect for autumnal escapades! I need them in every color!
1

Antique & vintage style jewelry from A Nordic Rose etsy shop! I adore her style of jewelry. It meshes perfectly with my current obsession in pearl jewelry. I'm lusting after several freshwater pearl rings, and I just splurged on a pair of pearl stud earrings.

All things whimsical & quirky in Fred Flare's webshop! It's almost impossible to choose my favorites from this adorably eccentric shop. I'm definitely ordering my very own Holly Golightly sleep mask as soon as payday rolls around!

Floral dresses! One of my friends recently informed me that florals were only for springtime, and I laughed. I adore floral dresses, and I tend to dawn them year-round. Am I breaking some kind of fashion rule? Possibly, but I live in central Texas and it rarely gets cold during autumn. I need cute dresses to wear in the heat of September and October. Plus, I'm not really a rule-follower. No, i don't wear anything edgy or sport a mo-hawk, but I definitely don't have any problems with breaking the rules to fit my style & taste. I also rarely wear pants. Unless I'm busting a move at the gym in a pair of sweats, I'm a skirt-legging-dress-girl.
1.....2.....3

The quirkiest wall prints from the Collage-o-Rama Etsy Shop!
These are some of my favorites. I'm head over heels in love with the My Fair Lady Cat print!

A Peek Into My Life Via Instagram!

Hope your week was amazing! Personally, I'm extremely glad that today is Friday. This week was filled with many wonderful moments, but it felt like it went by at snail-speed. What are your plans for this weekend?? Anything fun, whimsical, or adventurous? I'm think I'm going to attempt to clean out my closet, which could turn into a treacherous journey into the depths of my hovel. If you know me personally, you probably know that I'm very neat & tidy except for my closet, which is bursting at the seams right now. Anyways, here is a tiny peek into my life via Instagram!

Thankful Thursday!!

images by Lissy Elle
_____________________________________________
I know it's nearly Friday, but I really wanted to keep this feature going on my blog. I feel like I desperately need to compose a gratitude list and focus more on the positive aspects of my life. This entire week has been a whirlwind of stress, anxiety, and rampant crumminess. Not to say that it didn't have some wonderful moments as well-i.e. my Filofax arriving! I've just been very busy with the start of a new semester, and my health decided it was the perfect time to take a turn for the worse. It's been a challenge, but I'm determined to stay positive and motivated. That being said, here is my gratitude list for this week...and quelle week it has been!

Having someone to take naps with...Someone special to steal away with on random ice cream dates. A guy who will drop what he is doing to come see me when I'm feeling under the weather. A best friend who will laugh with me when everything is amazing and hold me close when things are rough. I'm especially thankful for my boyfriend, Zeth. He makes my heart smile and swoon like a giddy teenager, and I hope he knows that I love him so.

My crazy & wonderful family...They are loving, caring, absolutely cuckoo at times, and 100% mine. I love them very much, even when they make me nutso!

20 Ways to Find Inspiration for Blog Writers!

I have always loved writing. Even at a very young age, I can remember keeping a journal and writing the most fabulous stories. I even recall a time when I kept a spy journal just like Harriet the Spy. When I was in middle school, one of my closest friends and I wrote stories together by exchanging a notebook throughout the day. I loved writing because it was a creative outlet for my whimsical & silly imagination. I could create my own idea of how I thought the world should be. If I didn't like the outcome of a movie or book, I could think up my own ending and write it down.

I have never considered actually studying English or writing professionally. True, I love to read and write, but there is just something a little bit too scary & intimidating about the world of academic English. I'm always afraid of making a mistake, wording my thoughts improperly, or failing miserably to grasp the English language. I'm terrified of being told that my poor spelling skills and occasional grammar errors make me a horrible writer. Because of all of these reservations, I definitely flourish in the blogging world as a writer. I love being able to write without the fear of extreme criticism. Although I do consider myself a "blogger", I also feel like an actual writer most of the time.

Recently, I had a friend ask, "How do you think up all of your blog topics and how do you stay inspired?" I squealed in response and immediately jotted down his question in my journal. What a wonderful blog topic, no? So, without further ado, here are a few of my own personal ideas for finding inspiration as a writer.

10 Ways to Find Inspiration for Blog Writers!

Look at colorful and visually pleasing photos on a photo database such as pinterest, tumblr, or weheartit★  Have a special playlist filled with low key music to put on when writer's block strikes. ★  Read lots of different blogs, books, magazines, and newspapers. ★  Grab some crayons or markers and doodle mermaids and unicorns until your mind is clear. ★  Keep a working list of blog topics with you and jot down ideas as they hit you. ★  Change your writing scenery by grabbing your laptop and working on your blogs in your local park or coffee shop. ★  Utilize writing software such as OmmWriter for Mac. ★  Give yourself permission to write without worrying about grammar, spelling, etc. Edit your writing only after you have finished a significant amount. ★  Hang up inspiring pictures, quotes, and magazine clippings near your writing area. ★  Bring back old blog topics that were successful and turn them into weekly or monthly features. ★  Write on a daily basis by answering emails, filling out your organizer, and documenting your thoughts in a journal. ★  Carry around a ratty old notebook or journal and write down your most random thoughts throughout the day. ★  Create a skeleton of your blog post by writing down simple words to indicate what you wish to write about, organize the words in the desired order, and fill in the blanks when you are ready to compose your post. ★  Channel your favorite celebrity and write while using their voice as your inner monologue (it sounds ridiculous, but IT WORKS!). ★  Jot down a short list of all of the things you're currently interested it. ★  Stop stressing about being perfect. ★  Snap a picture of your pets, your current hairstyle, or your best friend for a short blog post while you work on more complicated topics. ★  Meditate and quiet your mind.★  Go for a short walk and notice all of the little things you would normally disregard. ★  Allow your friends, family, and readers to inspire you with their questions and personal interests. ★ Write about what makes your heart race wildly, even if you think no else is interested. They will be, I promise.★

What inspires you, Lovely Writer?

Thankful Thursday!!

Hi There!! Today has been such an incredible day...actually, this entire week has been AH-MAY-ZING! I genuinely hope you are having an equally wonderful day.

While shopping for sparkly nail polish, I had the idea to start my very own gratitude list segment on this blog. I've decided to call it "Thankful Thursday" because of my affinity with aliterations. I know that a lot of bloggers out there feature "things I love Thursday" articles(such are Gala Darling and Kaelah) , but I really don't want to be a copy cat. Part of my ideology for living happily is constantly taking the time to make note of what makes me smile. Even the silly, little, and insignificant things count. I'm extremely excited to launch this brand new segment, although I've been sporadically writing gratitude lists for years. I hope you will join in on all of this gratitude and share your own list of thankfulness.

"Happiness is a grateful spirit, an optimistic attitude, and a
     heart full of love."

Road trips with my favorite people...I went with my boyfriend to visit his family & celebrate his nephew's birthday last weekend. They live close to Amarillo in the Texan panhandle and it was a 4 hour drive from where I live. My sister and I went to San Antonio yesterday for a short shopping get-away. We live about 3 hours away, and we spent the entire road trip singing karaoke style to the GLEE soundtracks. AND tomorrow, Zeth & I are driving to Abilene to snatch up some much needed clothes for our Fall wardrobes. Have I mentioned how much I adore traveling? Even short little road trips make me extremely happy. What about you??

Movie dates...No exaggeration...I've been to the movies about a million times this summer, AND I love it! Going to the movies is one of my absolute favorite things to do. It's one of the things I do when I'm blue. When I wrote about where my personal Tiffany's would be, I mentioned the movie theatre. We are going to see David Tennant in Fright Night TONIGHT!!

Snuggling with George...He just has this way of making my heart melt when he snuggles up close to me in his sleep. I love my Fox Terrier so much!

Kate Spade Phone case...I just bought this case for my iPhone 4, and I LOVE it!! It's sturdy, not too bulky, and ADORABLE!!
