I've noticed lately that you've been struggling a little with your self-esteem & your self-image. That is the main reason why I thought it would be nice to receive a little letter filled with love from me. You've always been hard on yourself. Ever since I could remember, you've been the type of person to push yourself just a little harder than the person next to you. At times, it seems that your expectations for yourself are a little bit unrealistic. I just want you to see all the amazing things about yourself that I see everyday. I want you to give yourself more credit for your talents and achievements. I want you to smile at yourself in mirror and feel happy about the image smiling back at you. And most of all, I want you to stop comparing yourself to others in such a self-hating manner.
You deserve to love yourself...and you know that deep down. You deserve to feel happy, loved, and beautiful. I know that the road towards true self-love is a rocky one, but I think it's worth it in the end. You are worth the effort. You've been through so much in your life, and I've seen you become such a strong person and endure more than most. You've always been so brave, and I'm in awe of all the things you are capable of. My biggest wish for you is to stop beating yourself up and punishing yourself over every failure. Things are never going to be absolutely perfect. The best part about being alive is embracing all the splendid imperfections in life and in yourself. You have always been bursting with positivity and encouragement for others. Why can't you give yourself a little bit of that gorgeous energy and positivity? I think you deserve to love the amazing, wonderful, and beautiful person that is you.
Summertime is just around the corner!! And I'm so excited! The warmer months of the summer have always been my favorite season, second only to the flowery and rainy months springtime. There is just something exciting and adventurous about summer. Whenever I think about summer, images of freshly squeezed lemonade, colorful & flowery sun dresses, mile-high wedges, and beachside umbrellas enter my mind.
Obviously, I'm spending the first month of my summer in Europe. It's definitely been an adventure, even though we've only been here for 5 days, but it's not all fun and games. We are taking two classes about the history of trade and the political system in the United Kingdom. I've always been very keen on learning and the classes are quite interesting, but I seem to have lost any motivation to do schoolwork ever since we landed in the UK. Instead, we have spent hours exploring the city of Edinburgh, shopping in all the quirky little boutiques and eating lots of delicious food. Studying abroad...the abroad part is lovely but the studying part? Not so much.
I thought it would be fun to make a list of possible adventures for the summer months. I've seen similar posts on several blogs all over the blogosphere, so I thought I would join in with my own quirky spin on things.
♥Treat yourself to a summertime pedicure! They are usually very reasonably priced, and they last quite a while. Make it extra fun by going to a spa pedicure and ask for a fancy design on your toes.
♥Have an ice cream date with your Dad or Grandfather! June is the month of Father's Day!
♥Dye your hair magenta, teal, or bright red! Summer is the perfect time to experiment with your hair color!
♥Spend an afternoon hanging out in your favorite cafe. Grab a cup of chai tea or a caramel latte and spend a little time thinking, relaxing, and people-watching. There is something liberating about spending time by yourself.
♥Start a photo journal and document all of your summer adventures!
♥Have a Heath Ledger movie marathon!
♥Bake strawberry cupcakes and deliver one to each of your closest friends!
♥Have a tea party picnic! Pack a small basket with treats, snacks, and a thermos of your favorite tea.
♥Go exploring and look for fairies!
♥Make some home-made popsicles!
♥Buy an adorable retro bathing suit, and go swimming as often as possible. It's such good exercise, and it's just good plain fun to swim around like a little fish! Make sure to wear sun-block and avoid sunburns!
♥If a big vacation is out of your means, put together a small road trip to somewhere close by. A neighboring city or just across town. Pack a suitcase and let your adventures take you away.
♥Buy a huge stack of your favorite magazine and read them while lazing on a patio or by the pool.
♥Start a collection! Vintage jewelry, stamps, Betseyville handbags, elephants, floral brooches, or quirky socks! Anything you desire, really!
♥Start reading and commenting on several new blogs! I try to make a habit of reading & commenting on new blogs every week. I think that we all feed off of feedback and response, and it can be very frustrating when readers don't comment on your work. I try my best to keep up with all of my favorite blogs, as well as new blogs.
♥Play Glee karaoke and bust out your best Rachel Berry or Kurt Hummel voice!
♥Listen to an audiobook or podcast about a subject you've always been interested in learning more about. There are also free lectures on iTunes recorded from prestigious professors on a variety of subjects.
♥Daydream about bunnies while sipping on some delicious pink lemonade!
♥Watch some youtube or blogger tutorials and practice your perfect cat-eye or smoky eye makeup! My favorite youtube makeup gurus are Michelle Phan & Promise Phan!
Ah...this image really made me think. I absolutely adore being reminded that life is meant to be lived with a vigor & thirst for adventure. I think that all of our adventures, big and small, are amazing moments in our lives. To me, life is sacred, splendid, and filled with a million reasons to be thankful. Recently, I have started to cope with the various problems in my daily life by making a mental list of the many things I'm grateful for. I have a tendency to get extremely overwhelmed when things start going wrong. I struggle a little bit with anxiety, and I often let it get the best of me during times of stress. I discovered that reflecting on the wonderful things in my life helps me to deal with my problems and keep a positive attitude. It helps me to remember how extraordinary being alive truly is. I think the only way I can exist happily is to get excited about life & all the simple things that make it full and whole.
Maybe it seems silly to some, but I think that anything that makes me smile is something to be thankful for. Blowing bubbles in my milk, happy dancing, and offering kindness to others. Those are simple things that make me smile and add to my life in a small way. I have often been treated badly by others who assume to know me and what I've been through. Some have told me that I wouldn't be so happy all the time if I had gone through any type of pain or struggle. I have always been the type of person who feels the need to justify myself, and it's difficult to keep my head up when people judge my excitement for life. I assure you that my life has been far from easy. I have had my fair share of struggle, and have endured more than I wish on anyone. I'm not telling you this because I want any type of sympathy. I just want to express that I believe being happy and loving your life is a choice. It doesn't just happen for some and not for others. It isn't something that only the wealthy or lucky are blessed with. I believe that you can choose to be happy or choose to be unhappy. Being truly happy for me is about appreciating all of those small moments and getting excited about being alive.
I don't know about you, but I love all the wonderful and splendidly imperfect moments that make up our lives! I'm grateful for every moment, good and bad, because it means I'm living.
Today was a BEAUTIFUL day! We spent the day wandering around Edinburgh and touring the city on a bus. It was a lot of fun to visit Edinburgh and see how it has changed after two years since my last visit to the UK. We returned to one of my favorite places in Edinburgh, the Royal Botanical Gardens. I took way too many pictures of flowers, trees, and grassy hills. I'm afraid this post is going to be very photo heavy!!

An adorable tea party in Princes Park! They were dressed up in fancy dresses and had a little spread with fairy cakes & cups of tea.
A trail called Radical Road leads up to the top of this hillside to a place called Arthur's Seat.
The back end of the Scottish Parliament building.
An enchanting forest inside the city called the Royal Botanical Gardens!

A lovely park across the street from the gardens. There was a cricket game going on, lots of dogs playing catch, and a large group of swans swimming in the pond.
