21 Ways to Enjoy Life More!!

How to Enjoy Life More:

Learn how to express self-love more often. It is easy to become overwhelmed with doing things for others and forget about the most important person in your life: you! Take the time to do nice things for yourself. It can be something small like rewarding yourself with a surprise ice cream sundae or those pair of shoes you've been lusting after. It can also be something simple like taking a long bath, getting a massage, or taking an afternoon nap.

★ Try very hard to manage your stress and anxiety. If you let it, stress can eat up all of your energy and leave you feeling lifeless and depressed. Stomp it out with some stress relievers like exercise or meditation! I have to take a really long bath or shower every night before bed to help me center myself and get rid of all of my stress. Try to figure out what works for you!

Surround yourself with people who inspire you. Seeing others enjoying life encourages you to have a more positive outlook on your own situation. People who are successful are motivated, hardworking, and positive. Being around people with these qualities will cause you to feel an urge to match their vivacity. Make friends with people whom you admire, follow celebrities who inspire you on twitter, and read the blogs of positive and life-loving individuals. It will rub off on you!

★ Sing in the shower!! 

Find a hobby that makes your heart happy. Or pick up an old hobby you have neglected. Doing things for yourself will make you feel good about yourself. Paint, skateboard, garden, sew, collect stamps, crochet, play video games, blog, scrapbook, play banjo, doodle, bake, or a million others hobbies! And never let anyone make you feel bad for spending time on your hobbies! It's important to have YOU time!

Watch cartoons and laugh out loud!

Find the humor in awkward or uncomfortable situations. Humor is one of our greatest weapons. It allows us to get through any hard situation and helps us to laugh to keep from crying. Without humor, humans could not deal with the day to day lives that most of us have. Take advantage of the power of humor.

And never be afraid to laugh out loud! Laughter is soooo good for you! So go on, giggle!!

Don't let other people impose their expectations and ideals on your lifestyle. You will live a much more enjoyable life if you just do your own thing and shrug off the judgment and criticism of others. Yes, people are always going to open their big mouths and make you feel that you owe them an explanation for your decisions. But that is simply not true. At the end of the day, the only person who needs to feel convinced is you.

Incorporate more color into your life! Buy things in colors you wouldn't normally choose for yourself! Paint your walls in vibrant shades! Hang up colorful posters! Wear a different color combination than you are accustomed to. Colors are visually stimulating!

Reconnect with nature and breathe in the positive energy of the trees. Most of us live in urban areas and that often means we are disconnected from nature. Every so often, take some time to appreciate the miracles in nature. Go for a walk and appreciate all the trees, birds, and daffodils. Spend an evening stargazing. Go for a hike and spend the day communing with mother nature.

Listen to your body! Never deprive yourself of the things you need to feel healthy. Make sure to eat plenty and often! Low blood sugar is the biggest culprit of a crabby mood. Make sure to get enough sleep (most people need at least 7-8 hours!) Rest when you feel drained and relax after you have worked hard. Drink lots of fluids, especially water. Being dehydrated can cause headaches, misinterpreted hunger, dry skin, fatigue and nausea. Keep a bottle of water handy and sip on it often.

Stop comparing your talents to others! Especially those who have more experience than you. While it is inspiring to see someone who has developed their skills, you shouldn't feel discouraged just because you have a long way to go. Everyone starts in the same place. At the beginning!!

Give yourself time to analyze before reacting to a negative situation. I find it comforting to compose a letter to myself explaining why I am so upset about the situation. The letter allows me to reveal my true feelings and gives me the insight into myself that I might disregard otherwise. Taking the time to understand why you are upset helps you take a more proactive approach in repairing the situation. It also prevents you from doing or saying anything you might regret in retrospect.

Try to eat healthily most of the time, but always leave some room for an occasional treat. There is nothing wrong with enjoying a cookie or some french fries every once in a while. The world is not going to end if you eat that piece of chocolate cake. Giving yourself permission to indulge feels wonderful!

Reward yourself for hard work.  If you have a big to do list, plan to reward yourself for getting through it.  It will give you incentive to push through to the end.  You can take yourself shopping, watch your favorite television show, or enjoy a tasty treat like ice cream.

Surround yourself with inspiring objects and images. Cover your walls in pictures, posters, and artwork that make you feel positive and happy. Every so often rearrange your space to give it a new look and get rid of things that are no longer inspiring. You are constantly changing as a person, and you should replace the old with new things that represent who you are right now.

Throw on some loud dance music and dance around like a crazy person until you are completely out of breath.

Get excited about life!! There are a millions things that are worth happy dancing about!! Always think about those things first! Life seems so much more magical when you find things to be happy about!!

Allow yourself to say no. This is probably one of the hardest words to say when we feel obligated to please everyone. But you have to learn how to say no when things become unrealistic. Don't overwhelm your schedule just because you were unable to say no. It is ok to be selfish sometimes and it helps you to realize you are never going to be able to please everyone. Say yes to things because you want to.

Stay close to those who love you the most. They are your life cheerleaders and you need them to pick you up when you fall down. Remain in contact, even if it isn't always easy.

Celebrate all the little things that make your days wonderful! Cups of tea, walks in the park, lunch dates, library books, cupcakes, spaghetti, music, naps, everything! It's all important and learning to appreciate it helps you realize that you really do love your life.

Learning Self Love

As I have mentioned in an earlier post, I am participating in Gala Darling's month of Radical Self Love. I have yet to write a post on this subject because I wanted to let all of my thoughts percolate for a little while. Now that the month of RSL is almost over, I want to share some of my thoughts and experiences with you.

 My Radical Self Love Bible has been a very close friend of mine this past month. At first, I used it to jot down an inspiring quote or passage. Then I started writing letters to myself filled with praise and compliments. At first, it was difficult to write positive things about myself. But it got easier the more often that I wrote. I composed myself love letters with the mindset I would take when praising a best friend. Honest words filled with lots of love.  Now, I really cannot imagine a day without my little Self Love Bible. It is a wonderful place to journal, vent, and doodle.

I'm starting to realize that I was never taught to love myself as a child. Love others, yes, but not myself. And the concept is very foreign to me at times. I need a constant reminder to continue to love myself through all of life's ups and downs. My Self Love Totem is this Hello Kitty plushie that my older sister bought me for Valentine's Day. Hello Kitty is holding a little pink heart, which reminds me of the love I have for myself. I carry her around in my handbag.  If I ever have/adopt children, I want to teach them self love. I think that a child knows self love instinctually, but it is often forgotten or pushed aside. I wish that my younger self had been told to always love herself no matter what others say or do.  That self love is more important than being accepted by others.

 Self love is a constant battle with that inner critic who loves to make you feel awful about yourself. But that critic is a part of you and those negative thoughts are your thoughts. So why not envision a positive self love critic who can counter the negative thoughts with positive and self-love-reaffirming ones. Picture your self love critic in a dazzling frock and shiny accessories who always smiles at you and cheers you on!

For me, self love is about acceptance. We are always constantly changing mentally and physically. It's easy to yearn to be who you used to be, but that person is long gone. Love the person you are right now in the present moment. You aren't always going love and adore every aspect of yourself, but you should try to accept those things and appreciate that they are a part of who you are right now.

It really hurts my heart to hear a friend or family member talk about themselves with such negative words. I know that they would never say things like that to me or anyone they love, so why is it ok to speak about themselves like that? Honestly, it's not ok. But I know that learning to love yourself is never going to be easy for anyone. So we have to help each other and be good examples for one another. If one of your friends calls herself fat and ugly, gently reprimand her and explain how destructive those words are. The times that I have caught myself being abusive and practicing self-hate, I assign myself some self-love penance. It can be anything positive like writing a poem about how lovely you are or going for a walk outside to let the wind take away all of your negativity. One time when I was being particularly nasty to myself, I decided to assign myself an entire day filled with self-love activities. And it made me feel so wonderful, which is the purpose of self-love penance!

I have decided that Radical Self Love Month is going to be Radical Self Love Year for me! I need more time to learn and love.
